(WBIR - DOWNTOWN KNOXVILLE) A popular Farragut restaurant is planning to open a second location in the heart of Downtown Knoxville.

Wild Wing Cafe will renovate the Kress Building at 417 S. Gay Street for the new franchise.

The new restaurant will feature the same fare and drinks as the Farragut, but the owner said it will be unique because of the space.

"To be Downtown Knoxville and a part of what's going on...there's just a lot of growth and we're excited to be a part of it," said Dave McFarland, the franchise owner.

The 7,000 square foot space could open before the end of the year. McFarland said he is considering opening shop in other cities in East Tennessee, like the Gatlinburg/Sevierville area, Chattanooga and the Tri-Cities, but is focusing on Knoxville for now.

"We're really tied to Knoxville," he said.

McFarland also owns two Wild Wing Cafes in Asheville, in addition to the location in Farragut. Wild Wing Cafe has been open at the Farragut location for eight years.

J's Mega Mart used to be located in the Kress Building. In 2011, the Aveda Institute debated opening a location there, but ultimately chose the S & W Building down the street.
