MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -A Shelby County Schools teacher is in jail accused of operating an illegal adult strip club and promoting prostitution.

Police arrested 44-year-old Walter McCrimmon Saturday because of illegal activity going on in Walt's Place, 3572 Commerce Street, owned by McCrimmon.

Investigators said Memphis Police Department Vice officers began investigating McCrimmon's club in July 2015.

During the investigation, undercover officers visited the club several times. Officers made approximately eight prostitution deals inside the club. Some of the prostitution deals came directly from McCrimmon, who set prices for customers to have sex with the employees.

Officers said they also made several purchases of alcohol, even though the club did not have a liquor license.

On November 11, a temporary injunction was issued for Walt's Place because of the evidence presented to the District Attorney's office.

On November 14, Organized Crime Unit officers shut down Walt's Place and arrested McCrimmon.

"We will continue to dismantle businesses that are operating in an unlawful manner. We are dedicated to bring relief to communities afflicted by businesses such as this one," Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said.

McCrimmon is charged with promoting prostitution, storage of liquor for sale, unlawful sale of alcoholic beverages, and money laundering.

Officers said McCrimmon is a SCS school teacher who works at Raleigh-Egypt High School.

Shelby County Schools released the following statement:

"We are very concerned about the severity of these allegations. At this point, the teacher has been suspended without pay."
