Chattanooga PD: Man shoots himself after trying to 'carry out a plan' near Hamilton Place Mall

People said no one other than the shooter was shot or hurt.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Update (4:10 p.m.): Chattanooga police said a shooter who tried to "carry out a plan" at an office building near Hamilton Place Mall died after shooting himself Monday.

During a press conference, police said the shooter's plan failed, which ended in him shooting himself. No one else was hurt in the incident. 

Hamilton Place Mall and all surrounding businesses were put on lockdown. Police said there is no evidence that the shooter ever left the building before shooting himself. 

Police said they are working to determine if the shooter fired any other shots before shooting himself and said it is continuing to investigate the circumstances behind the shooting.

The Chattanooga Police Department is on the scene of a potential active shooter at Hamilton Place Mall Monday afternoon.

According to Local 3 News in Chattanooga, those working inside the mall said they are under lockdown after an intercom announced a report of shots fired.

Police are asking those in the area to avoid the scene at this time.
