WASHINGTON — Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) is expected to introduce legislation Thursday which coincides with a new “Department of Government Efficiency" or DOGE.
Blackburn is also expected to meet with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy this afternoon on Capitol Hill.
In a tweet Thursday, the senator said the "DOGE Act" will freeze federal hiring, relocate government agencies out of Washington D.C. and establish a merit-based salary system for federal workers.
On Nov. 12, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy would head the Department of Government Efficiency, which is not an existing federal agency.
The acronym “DOGE” is a nod to Musk's favorite cryptocurrency, dogecoin. Trump said in a statement that Musk and Ramaswamy will work from outside the government to offer the White House “advice and guidance” and will partner with the Office of Management and Budget to “drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before.” He added that the move would shock government systems.
