Russian hackers are responsible for the theft of Democratic National Committee emails that were later released to the public, according to Robby Mook, Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager.

Mook, citing unnamed experts Sunday morning on CNN, said the Russians wanted the emails released to help the campaign of GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Wikileaks released nearly 20,000 Democratic National Committee emails on Friday, some of which show party officials discussing how to undermine the presidential candidacy of Sen. Bernie Sanders. That leak led to U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s announcement that she would be stepping down as the committee’s chair.

It followed two hacks of the committee by sophisticated organizations based in Russia.

The cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, which was hired by the DNC to track down the hackers, posted the code used in the hacks on its blog last month with the permission of the DNC. CrowdStrike has given the organizations the code names “Cozy Bear” and “Fancy Bear” by U.S. intelligence. “Cozy Bear” infiltrated the DNC servers last year, while “Fancy Bear” struck earlier this year.

It’s not the first time the two Russian organizations have struck in the U.S. In the past they’ve successfully infiltrated unclassified systems along with the networks of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the State Department, according to CrowdStrike.
