KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — There are just a few days left of Tennessee's early voting period. The last day to cast a ballot before Election Day will be Oct. 31, and so far voters have flocked to the polls.
In Knox County, election officials said 130,429 ballots were collected by the end of the day on Monday. It said officials collected 6,189 absentee ballots and 124,240 early votes — resulting in a total of more than a third of all registered voters in the county having cast a ballot.
The Downtown West location collected the most votes so far, followed by the Farragut location. The Knoxville Expo Center saw the third-highest number of early votes. Monday also marked the first day of Knox County's new University of Tennessee early voting location. It collected 699 early votes, according to election officials.
People will have Wednesday and Thursday to cast an early vote — the last days of Tennessee's early voting period. Election Day falls on Nov. 5, when voters will decide who they want to be the president of the United States, as well as who they want to serve in a variety of federal and state-level elected positions.
Several East Tennessee voters will also decide on whether to pass proposed referendums. In Knoxville, voters will decide whether to implement district-limited voting styles or an at-large system. Voters in other municipalities will decide on whether to allow liquor sales.
