Knoxville's Jewish community comes together amid Israel-Hamas war

The Knoxville Jewish Alliance welcomed hundreds of local supporters of Israel to pray and sing for peace.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Thousands of Palestinians are fleeing Israeli airstrikes. This is in retaliation for the Hamas terror attack last week. The Israeli military said the effort is expanding by coordinating attacks "from the air, sea and land."

The Knoxville Jewish Alliance held a vigil Sunday night to honor the lives lost in the attacks. Hundreds of people from across Knoxville came together to hold a vigil for the people of Israel through prayer and song.

One local rabbi, who has family in Israel, said that this event was important for her to attend.

"When you don't have anything, you have prayer," the rabbi said. "So, to be in my community praying together today is what you do when you can't do anything else."

Senator Marsha Blackburn sent a representative to Sunday's gathering. Representative Tim Burchett was also there in support.
