Middle TN police department warns about 'meth-gators' from flushing drugs down toilets

Loretto PD typed up a special note in the post about how meth and drugs can affect wildlife.

LORETTO, Tenn. — "Folks... please don’t flush your drugs m’kay."

A Middle Tennessee police department is warning people about flushing drugs down the toilet, saying fowls and alligators on meth are possible.

The Loretto Police Department posted about a drug roundup over the weekend on Facebook, but authorities also typed up a special note in the post about how meth and drugs can affect wildlife.

According to the post, ducks, geese and other fowl visit water treatment ponds in the area, and officials "shudder to think what one all hyped up on meth would do."

Though the department said the retention ponds are clean, the sewer workers aren't prepared to deal with meth and drugs in the water.

Beyond that, authorities also (jokingly) warned of meth-gators if the water ran into Shoal Creek and the Tennessee River in North Alabama.

They recommend taking your unwanted medication to designated takeback centers instead of putting them down the drain.
