Zoo Knoxville will host a first birthday party for baby gorillas

Just like any family in East Tennessee, the staff at Zoo Knoxville will celebrate their children's first birthday with a party for their baby gorillas both are turning 1.

My, how they've grown!

Obi and Ubuntu, the first gorilla babies ever born in Knoxville are turning 1 year old this year and you're invited to their birthday party.

Zoo Knoxville will host a birthday celebration on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 10AM. The babies will come into their courtyard at Gorilla Valley to discover treats, toys, and decorations. Their extended family will get to play along with them.

Zoo Knoxville anticipates the arrival of a half-sibling for Obi and Ubuntu, expected to arrive in late summer or early fall.

Additionally, Zoo Knoxville continues to invite the community to choose a name for the first critically endangered red wolf pup born at the zoo in 23 years.

After receiving more than 2,500 name suggestions for the male pup, they've narrowed down the choices to four:

Rufus
Uno
Waya
Mozart.

Voting will continue through Sunday, June 12, 2016.

Votes can be cast through links on Zoo Knoxville's Facebook page and website, zooknoxville.org

The winning name will be announced on June 13, 2016.
