KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Young-Williams Animal Center temporarily closed its Bearden location on Friday after a dog tested positive for distemper. Located at 6400 Kingston Pike, it will be closed until further notice.
YWAC Village staff will test and monitor animals as needed and conduct comprehensive cleaning. They said any spay/neuter solutions appointments in a separate part of the Village building will not be affected.
“If your pet is not up to date on vaccines, please make an appointment with your veterinarian,” Dr. Lisa Chassy, medical director at Young-Williams Animal Center, said. “Vaccinations are the best way to help keep your pet healthy and stop the spread of contagious diseases like distemper among animals. If your pet has symptoms of distemper or another disease, such as vomiting, lethargy, coughing, reduced appetite and fever, please call your veterinarian’s office."
YWAC's main shelter location at 3201 Division St. is still open for pet adoptions and other services.
