KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Young-Williams Animal Center said Thursday that scammers were posing as animal control officers in the Knoxville area, and warned people to stay vigilant about possible scams.
In a post on social media, the animal center said two men who were not wearing Young-Williams uniforms introduced themselves as animal control officers at a home in Farragut Thursday morning. The post said the men asked to see animal documentation and medical records and were able to make their way inside the home.
Young-Williams Animal Center said animal control officers would never show up in civilian clothing or arrive in personally owned vehicles. It said people can identify members of its team by the center's dark blue or neon green polos that have the center's logo.
Officers also drive a truck branded with the Young-Williams logo. They also wear name tags and badges.
Anyone who is approached by someone they suspect to be a scammer posing as an animal control officer should call the police, Young-Williams said on social media.
