FAIRVIEW, N.C. — A Knoxville restaurant owner and humanitarian returned to North Carolina on Friday to drop off more supplies, helping communities recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

Yassin Terou said Friday he and his team went to Fairview, North Carolina, to deliver 500 hot meals. The area was effectively swept away when Hurricane Helene hit, bringing raging floods and strong winds which practically made the small community unreachable. It destroyed roads and lifted away bridges.

Terou said during previous relief work, he met a man who told him above all else, that he wanted some hot food and milk. So on Friday, he brought hot meals to the community and spoke with community members, asking how they were doing and whether they needed anything else.

Terou also showed off several boxes and pallets of food and water dropped off for the Fairview community.

He owns Yassin's Falafel House, a restaurant that has previously made headlines as the "Nicest Place in America" on Good Morning America. He also started a nonprofit named "Seeds and Bridges," which people can donate to if they want to support his efforts.

He previously traveled to areas devastated by disaster and conflict, serving meals and helping with recovery work in Turkey, for example, while also creating programs to support students facing food insecurity in Knoxville.
