(WBIR - Oak Ridge) Y-12's managing contractor is facing a $33,000 penalty for shipping too much radioactive material in July.

Federal officials issued civil penalties against consolidated nuclear security, according to paperwork from the US Department of Transportation.

Those documents show CNS shipped 10 times the amount of highly enriched uranium than originally planned.  

The company was also penalized for not adequately re-training its hazardous material employees every three years as required.
