Knoxville police investigates fatal crash on Western Avenue after one person dead

Knoxville police said that alcohol was a possible contributing factor in the crash.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — One person is dead and another is facing non-life-threatening injuries after a crash on Western Avenue early Saturday morning, according to the Knoxville Police Department

KPD responded to the scene near Ball Camp Pike at around 3:30 a.m. They believe a BMW sedan was driving west on Western Avenue when it struck the backside of another vehicle. 

Both cars flipped as a result of the crash, KPD said.

The driver of the BMW was ejected from the car and pronounced dead on the scene. Officials said the driver of the car that was struck was taken to UT Medical Center with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. 

Based on evidence at the scene, Knoxville police said alcohol was possibly a contributing factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
