KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville bowling alley suffered smoke and water damage after it caught fire Wednesday afternoon. Authorities said the fire was caused by a faulty heating and air system.
The Knoxville Fire Department was called the Strike and Spare bowling alley on Western Avenue around noon. When crews arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the building's roof.
Fire crews determined the fire was coming from the heating and air system. They quickly accessed the roof and found a fire in the roof unit that spread into the attic. Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control.
KFD said due to the size of the building and drop ceilings, crews spent a considerable amount of time doing overhaul and looking for hidden fire.
KFD said the bowling alley was open and occupied at the time of the fire. The alarm sounded and the building was quickly evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Fire investigators are on scene working to determine a cause. KFD is also working to remove residual smoke.
