WBIR family mourning the loss of friend and mentor, Kathy Woodson

The WBIR family is mourning the loss of one of our own. Kathy Woodson, our beloved friend and mentor, died Wednesday night.

Straight from the Heart is much more than just our slogan at WBIR. It’s a way of life, not just for us, but for many of our viewers as well.

It’s honesty, integrity, sincerity, and most of all, it’s about caring for others.

Nobody did that better than Channel 10’s Kathy Woodson, and we are sad to report that Ms. Kathy passed away Wednesday night.

It's easy to get lost in our days. Work piles up, meetings, deadlines, sometimes it feels like there no time to breathe.

In order to stay grounded in this world, it helps to have someone that understands. Someone who knows what's important.

Like a mother caring for her children, we need someone who's life is a reflection of what we should all strive to be.

Life at a news station is no different. And our mother was Kathy Woodson.

From the moment Kathy took you under her comforting, yet strong wing, you were going to fly higher than ever before.

When you needed a hug, she was there with a warm embrace, the kind you got from mom as a kid.

At every meeting, picnic or party she organized the setup and completed the cleanup, and she made sure we always started with a prayer.

Kathy, who recently celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary with her husband Bob, had three children and four grandchildren. Her WBIR "kids" and "grandkids" numbered in the hundreds. All of us are a little lost without her. Our hearts our broken.

Whenever a member of the Channel 10 family was dealing with a loss, she made sure a card or flowers were sent with just the right words of encouragement. We sure wish we had one of those from her today.

Rest in Peace Kathy, We love you. Straight from our Heart.

Kathy's family will receive friends 5:30-7:30 on Thursday, November 10, at Church Street UMC with the funeral following at 7:30. The graveside service is set for Friday, November 11, 10:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery.
