In today’s countdown to WBIR’s 60th anniversary, we relive Lady Vols Head Coach Pat Summitt’s first NCAA championship win in 1987.
The team won the game against Louisiana Tech in a 67-44 victory.
Louisiana Tech had beaten the Lady Vols nine straight times before Tennessee’s championship win that year.
Summitt had led the team to seven other semi-finals and more than 300 victories prior to this first win.
It was her 13th season as head coach of the women’s basketball team at the University of Tennessee.
