Cornfield campaigns support Trump and an unlikely candidate

With the upcoming presidential election gaining lots of attention, at least two East Tennessee corn mazes are finding their way into the political arena and paying tribute to their candidates of choice.

With the upcoming presidential election gaining lots of attention, at least two East Tennessee corn mazes are finding their way into the political arena and paying tribute to their candidates of choice.

While one supports Republican nominee Donald Trump, the other features a less well-known figure, but one that still boasts his own impressive back story.

Oakes Farm's 2016 maze design features one of the farm's favorite members of the staff, Doug the Goat.

He quickly became their unofficial mascot after showing up at the Corryton farm a few years back with a name tag that said Doug, according to a post on its Facebook page.

But Doug isn't your average farm goat, he has high political aspirations.

Oakes Farm says he told them earlier this year that he enjoys all the freedom he gets to enjoy and wanted to see what he could do to "give back to this country that he loves."

"One thing led to another, and Doug has decided to run for president. Two words sum it all up - VOTE GOAT!" they wrote in the post unveiling the design.

Doug isn't the only presidential candidate with his own corn maze.

In a few weeks, Harvest Moon Pumpkin Patch plans to open its Donald Trump themed maze. The design features Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan and an American flag.

"It is a Trump thing, but that's not necessarily what we're pointing at," said Chuck Starritt, the owner and operator. "We're pointing at wanting people to unite and literally make America great again."

The Sevierville attraction's owner said he sent a letter to the Trump campaign inviting the candidate to the grand opening on Sept. 16.

Harvest Moon Pumpkin Patch will open up its Donald Trump themed corn maze in September.

Meanwhile, Oakes Farm will open up their corn maze to the public on Sept. 24.
