KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — As East Tennessee was buffeted by snow and ice from a winter storm, trash pickup was delayed in the Knoxville area for many customers. Because of the storm, WM said it could not get garbage trucks on the road. It said trucks should start rolling again on Tuesday.
WM said several customers experienced a delay in service, but the company hopes to have all customers serviced and back on normal schedules by next week. The company also asked customers to keep carts and containers easy to access and said anyone who has additional bagged trash should place it beside their cart.
WM also said pickup crews will not be able to collect trash in areas until it is safe to do so. A full statement from the company about the impact of winter weather is available below.
"WM is committed to the safety of our employees and the communities that we serve. With last week’s winter weather, there have been delays in service. Residents can check WM’s website at www.wm.com/mywm to get updates on WM’s ability to service and expected service dates due to weather delays.
Our goal is to have all customers serviced and back on their normal service schedule by next week. In order to facilitate our efforts, we would ask that customers do not block carts or containers, place additional bagged trash beside their cart, and understand that if the road conditions are not safe to travel for our employees and the community, WM will be unable to service that area until unsafe conditions are resolved."
WM said on its website that trucks will be operating on a holiday schedule, effectively delaying trash pickup by a day.
