Victims identified in fatal crash involving Hawkins mule-drawn wagon

Details of a Sunday crash involving a mule-drawn wagon, including victims' names, have been released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

 

UPDATE: Details of a Sunday crash involving a mule-drawn wagon, including victims' names, have been released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Killed was wagon passenger Deborah Burton, 37, of Rogersville. Injured were Levi Cole Osborne, 12, of Rogersville, also a passenger, and Mickey J. Burton, 54, of Rogersville.

The mule also was killed in the crash.

Travis North, 36, of Thorn Hill, the driver of the Mazda pick-up that collided with the wagon, was uninjured, according to a THP report.

Drug and alcohol tests are pending for North, according to the report.

According to THP, the wagon was traveling south on U.S. Highway 11W near Brooks Landing Circle a few minutes before 6 p.m. Sunday. The Mazda also was heading south.

The Mazda rear-ended the wagon. In the crash, the Burtons and Levi were thrown out and the wagon was destroyed.

Deborah Burton was dead at the scene, according to the report.

Levi and Mickey Burton were flown by helicopter for medical treatment.

In the crash, debris landed in front of a 2007 Mack truck driven by James Hickman, 33, causing minor damage to the truck. Hickman was uninjured.

PREVIOUS STORY: One person is dead in a Sunday night crash between a wagon and a pick-up truck in Hawkins County.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said three people were riding in a wagon on Highway 11 in Rogersville when they were struck by a truck.

Officers said the truck ran over the wagon around 6 p.m. Sunday, killing one person who was riding in the wagon and injuring two others.

The names of the victims are not being released as of 5 a.m. Monday.
