Kingston — Vandals hit a Roane County park, causing significant damage this week.
They wrote crude language on the wall and shattered toilets and sinks.
It happened at TVA Lakeshore Park next to the Kingston Fossil plant.
"We share their pain," Jim Hopson, spokesman for the TVA, said. "This is really built for the public."
Dozens of folks took to Facebook, upset about the damage to the restrooms at TVA Lakeshore Park.
"I mean why, this is why we can't have anything in RoCo. cause trash wants to go and ruin everything," Chelsey McNew said.
"People have no respect anymore for others' property," Franklin D. Smith said. "Hope they are caught."
"Grow up," Misty Travis Hard said.
"To have a few folks come in and do this kind of willful damage, hurts us all," Hopson said.
TVA Spokesman Jim Hopson said not only is it hurtful, it's also a federal crime.
"The TVA police organization is currently working on that investigation along with other federal state and local agencies in the area," Hopson said. "It's a significant issue to conduct vandalism on federal property, which is what this is."
He says the TVA deals with this sort of crime across the valley.
"Unfortunately, we always find some people who find it necessary to vandalize those facilities, which of course causes problems for everyone," Hopson said.
But you can help--always let the TVA know if you see something suspicious.
"Most of the investigations of this type are solved by members of public who contact the TVA police," Hopson said. "They are an absolutely vital aspect of the investigation."
The TVA has a hotline for these kinds of tips, call them at 855-476-2489.
Give them a call if you see anything suspicious on or near TVA property.
