12 UT journalism students and faculty travel to Paris to help report on Summer Paralympic Games

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are scheduled to start on Aug. 28 and will last through Sept. 8.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A group of journalism students from the University of Tennessee left Knoxville Monday on a journey to Europe, so they could help report on the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

The students are covering the Paralympics as part of a partnership with the USA Today Network, according to the UT School of Journalism and Media. The school said one student, Lukas Vysniauskas, is also working with a Paralympic athlete to produce a mini-documentary about his preparation and training, as well as his mentality before competing.

Twelve students and faculty traveled to Paris. They are expected to work alongside more than 3,000 sports media professionals from across the world. While at the Paralympics, they will write, photograph and film a variety of stories revolving around the athletes and the competitions.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are set to start on Aug. 28 and will go through Sept. 8. Around 4,400 athletes from across the world are expected to compete in 549 medal events across 22 sports. It will be the first time that France hosts the Summer Paralympic Games.
