UT Homecoming Weekend to kick off Oct. 29 with celebrations, rally and parade

UT will dye the water orange at the Europa and Bull Fountain as part of a tradition ahead of the game.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Homecoming is fast approaching at the University of Tennessee, scheduled to start on Oct. 29 and lasting throughout the week until the Vols' game against Connecticut on Nov. 4.

A traditional "Chancellor's Kick-Off" event will formally begin the homecoming celebrations. As part of the event, Chancellor Donde Plowman will help dye the water orange in the Europa and the Bull Fountain. There will also be free food served by the Chancellor's Cabinet, and students will be able to get homecoming t-shirts.

There will also be a "big orange pumpkin patch," where students can usually pick out a pumpkin and decorate it. UT also said there will be a performance following the kickoff event. It lasts from 3:45 p.m. through 5 p.m. on Monday.

On Friday, people will also be able to enjoy a rally and parade. The celebration before the parade will have free food and novelties right beside the Torchbearer. Directly after the rally, a homecoming parade will march down Volunteer Boulevard.

The Knoxville and campus community is invited to enjoy the parade. The rally and parade lasts from 2 p.m. through 4 p.m. on Friday.

On Saturday, the celebrations cap off with a game against the Connecticut Huskies, starting at 12 p.m. in Neyland Stadium.
