UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute hosts first research symposium

"As you know, Tennessee is becoming a hub for vehicle research and manufacturing and we are helping to push that forward," Shawn Campagna said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A first in scientific research was on display at the University of Tennessee with the UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute hosting its inaugural research symposium.

The two-day event showcased research from different teams of faculty and graduate students from UT and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, including transportation, clean energy, and new cancer therapies.

The overall research of the event was to figure out ways to increase fuel efficiency, lower traffic, make transportation safer and help with autonomous cars.

"As you know, Tennessee is becoming a hub for vehicle research and manufacturing and we are helping to push that forward," Oak Ridge Director of Scientific Programs, Shawn Campagna, said.

Since launching three years ago, the UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute has invested $21 million in research.
