Patients and visitors to be rerouted when heading to UTMC's ER

The University of Tennessee Medical Center said patients and visitors will be rerouted to the MRI/Endoscopy side entrance at Heart Hospital Fountain Circle.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Starting Monday, Feb. 19, patients and visitors heading to the University of Tennessee Medical Center's ER will be rerouted due to construction.

UTMC said patients and visitors will be rerouted to the MRI/Endoscopy side entrance at Heart Hospital Fountain Circle throughout the construction project.

Patients arriving by ambulance will not be affected. They will continue to use the existing ambulance bay for admittance, according to UT Medical Center.

The temporary entrance will have signs, along with the medical center staff, to guide patients and visitors to the ER.

Additionally, both entry and exit for Garage 1 will only be accessible via the Fountain Circle access route—there will be no entry on the current ER side of the garage, UT Medical Center said.

The construction is for the emergency department's improvement and expansion project announced in 2023.
