KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — As part of the U.S. Postal Service's ten-year plan to modernize its postal delivery network, the USPS said it would review a processing and distribution center in Knoxville.
The Mail Processing Facility Review is part of the postal service's Delivering for America plan, which involves spending around $40 billion to improve how mail is handled and delivered across the U.S. It will assess how the Knoxville facility can "best support service and operational goals," according to a release from the USPS.
It will also provide platforms to launch new products and services for mailing and shipping in the future.
The review is expected to have little impact on customer service. Retail services, delivery services, post offices and business mail entry are expected to continue as normal while the review is conducted. The USPS is also collecting public input as part of the review process.
The Knoxville-area community can submit comments online as part of the review. If the review finds that the facility should undergo changes, representatives will also hold a public meeting to give the community a chance to provide additional feedback, according to a release from the USPS.
Throughout the process, the USPS said it would work with management associations and unions to monitor the impact of changes that could be implemented and adjust those plans as needed.
