UPDATE: A four-vehicle crash on Clinton Highway near the Anderson-Knox county line Friday killed two people and injured four others.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

THP identified the victims as 29-year-old Roy Simmons of Helena, Ga., and 25-year-old Charles Miller of Powell.

According to THP, a Knox County Sheriff's Officer attempted to stop Simmons, who was driving a Ford TSS in the northbound lanes of Clinton Highway near West Beaver Creek when the vehicle fled.

Simmons lost control of the vehicle while going around a curve and crossed the center line, THP said.

The vehicle struck a Mitzubishi EGS that was heading southbound on Clinton Highway, running it off the road. The driver of the Mitzubishi was not injured.

The first vehicle then struck a Toyota in the southbound lane head-on. The Toyota was rear-ended by a Mercedes-Benz-GL3, which caused the Toyota to spin and hit the passenger side of the Ford TSS, THP said.

Simmons and his passenger, Miller, were both killed.

The driver of the Toyota and her two passengers were both injured. One of the passengers was a two-year-old girl.

The driver of the Mercedes was also injured.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Friday. Clinton Highway was closed for roughly five hours while officers cleared the crash scene.

At least one person died in the crash during the lunch hour.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
