Great Smoky Mountains Natl. Park — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency announced a grant for cost-share funding to help local governments, communities and businesses address human-bear conflicts.

TWRA said it is making $250,000 available to help communities buy approved bear-resistant containers such as dumpsters, trash cans and compactors. This is part of a long-term project to secure garbage within the current Tennessee bear range.

"A scored application process will be used to determine awards and amounts," the agency said.

Anyone interested in applying for a grant can contact Dan Gibbs at Dan.Gibbs@tn.gov for more information, TWRA said. The agency also said all applications must be postmarked by Oct. 31.
