On Monday, another serious crash happened along the stretch of highway near the North Carolina state line around mile marker 9.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said that motorcyclist crashed when he failed to negotiate a curve and was thrown of the bike 30 to 40 feet down an embankment. He also was flown to UT Medical Center.
According to the Blount County Sheriff's Office, they make extra patrols on the Dragon every day from April through September. They said they receive a grant specifically from the state and federal government to fund the summer operations due to a larger number of incidents happening during this time of year.
