KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A convoy carrying bulldozers, bucket trucks and more rolled out of East Tennessee Thursday. It was headed south to Florida, helping communities in the state recover from Hurricane Milton.

The Tennessee Valley Authority said more than 100 lineworkers with heavy equipment were on the way to help Duke Energy restore power in the middle of the state. The TVA said two helicopters and a crew were already in Florida to help assess the damage from the storm.

Overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning, Hurricane Milton swept through the area and knocked out power for around 3 million customers.

The storm also tore the roof off a St. Petersburg baseball stadium and toppled a construction crane. It made landfall as a Category 3 storm around 70 miles south of Tampa. While the damage was widespread, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said it was not "the worst-case scenario."
