A truck driver died Tuesday morning when his Freightliner vehicle left the road and plunged into woods off a Sevier County road, a Tennessee Highway Patrol report states.
The driver was identified as Jason Maples, 42.The THP report doesn't identify his employer.
The incident occurred on Redtail Road in the Wears Valley area.
Authorities were alerted about it about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities said then the vehicle appeared to be carrying lumber.
Maples was by himself in the 2021 Freightliner.
According to the report, the truck was going south on Redtail when it hit a forklift parked along the edge of the road. It went off the road and into a wood line.
It struck "multiple standing trees before coming to an uncontrolled final rest facing south with the frame against the ground."
WBIR sought information Tuesday from Sevier County authorities but has gotten no response.
