KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said its Motors Unit officers conducted a "joint saturation effort" on Monday.
The focus areas of the "high-visibility, joint special" were I-640 near Broadway, I-40 near Cherry Street and Chapman Highway, according to KPD.
Altogether, officers gave out 63 total traffic citations across the three areas, KPD said.
There were 45 traffic fatalities in 2023, up 12 from 2022. 10 of those 45 deaths were on I-40 while three of them were on Chapman Highway, according to KPD.
"KPD officers will continue to work tirelessly to keep the roads safe," KPD said.
