KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A set of baseball fields in Farragut will be renamed during a ceremony Wednesday after a legendary former Tennessee baseball player — Todd Helton.
In a release, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs said the Farragut Youth Baseball Fields would be known as the "Todd Helton Baseball Complex" after Wednesday's ceremony. He said he would join Joe Mack, the county's parks and recreation department's senior director, in an honorary naming ceremony.
The ceremony is meant to recognize Helton's accomplishments on the field. After playing for Tennessee Baseball, he started playing for the Colorado Rockies in 1995, according to his page on Major League Baseball's website.
He would later find a spot in the MLB Hall of Fame, after earning four Silver Slugger awards and three Gold Gloves.
The release said Jacobs and Mack would be joined by members of the Tennessee Baseball team as well as representatives of the Central High School Bobcats Baseball team. The ceremony is set to start at 2:30 p.m. at the Farragut Youth Baseball Fields, located at 11705 South Northshore Drive.
