The tiny home craze is making its way into Knoxville, and soon you could have a tiny place of your own to call home.
Kerns Construction is currently in the process of building the Richmond Orchard Development -- a community of 11 tiny homes off Western Avenue near downtown Knoxville.
On Sunday, Tennessee Mountain Real Estate invited people out to the event for an open house.
Described as 'urban cottages,' these 640-square-foot two-story homes are larger than the average tiny home. They were also built on site.
Sarah Hurst, a realtor with Tennessee Mountain Real Estate, said she's happy to see the Knoxville community invested in the idea.
"There's something to be said for that progressive nature. People are drawn to that and it's become really trendy to have tiny homes and to go a little bit more minimalistic," she said. "You're not sacrificing the quality of life and so you're still getting a lot of space. But, you don't need 7,000 square feet for one person."
Hurst said the homes are going even faster than expected with only five cottages available. The two-story cottages start at $118,000 and include garden plots.
