THP's Lowell Russell completes spinal surgery

ID=5470713(WBIR) A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper, who nearly died in a crash two years ago, underwent spinal surgery in San Francisco on Friday.

Sergeant Lowell Russell was intensive care, but posting on his Facebook page as of Friday night.

He wrote on his Facebook page:

"Thanks for the prayers everyone! I'm VERY sore tonight... As I lay here in ICU I'm reminded how THANKFUL that I am to be from East Tennessee! San Francisco is an interesting place to visit but I'll be happy to get back home."

"I've not spoken to the doctor since the surgery, but I plan on seeing him in the morning so I can give everyone a better update. He told my Aunt Linda that things went will."

"I'm not good at sitting still so I hope that they will allow me to walk soon!"

Russell had been in and out of the hospital and rehabilitation since a crash in March 2012. He was in his cruiser when a driver in a big rig fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into his car nearly killing him.
