THP: Trooper injured in July shooting on I-40 recovering in a rehabilitation center

According to THP Cookeville, Trooper Adam Cothron is in a rehabilitation center in Georgia.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol Officer injured in a shooting in Putnam County is recovering.

According to THPCookeville, Trooper Adam Cothron is in a rehabilitation center in Georgia and could go outside for the first time since he was taken there.

On Friday, July 19th,  Trooper Cothron pulled over a white Kia Forte with 29-year-old Braze Rucker and 25-year-old Timothy L. Davis inside. That was near the Burgess Falls exit in Putnam County. The stop was for a traffic violation around 7:47 p.m. 

Details regarding the circumstances behind the shooting have not been released. THP says Davis Jr. shot Cothron as he approached the car.

Both suspects fled the scene and the Kia was abandoned on Highway 109 near Gallatin the following Saturday morning. 

Both suspects are in custody now.
