KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol announced Saturday they will be conducting two sobriety roadside safety checkpoints in Knox County.

The first sobriety checkpoint will be on Friday, Jan. 12 on Oak Ridge Highway at Karns Valley Road. The second sobriety checkpoint will be on Friday, Jan. 26 on Northshore Drive, west of Concord Road.

Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States, according to THP.

Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment during checkpoints. THP said troopers will target those who are driving while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

"[We recognize] that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving," THP said.
