Motorcyclist killed in crash on Clinton Highway identified

Crews responded to Clinton Highway at Old Clinton Highway in Anderson County around 5:13 a.m.

ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn — The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a motorcyclist died after car crashed into them on Clinton Highway Thursday morning.

Clinton Highway was closed on both sides at Old Clinton Highway in Anderson County near Claxton for most of the morning. As of noon, the road had reopened to traffic. 

According to THP's preliminary crash report, 44-year-old Christopher Phillips was on a Harley Davidson motorcycle driving north on Clinton Highway early Thursday morning. THP said a car driving south on the highway crossed over the center line into the northbound lane, hitting the motorcycle. 

THP said Phillips was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Crews arrived around 5:13 a.m. to respond.

The driver of the car was not hurt in the crash. THP said it is still investigating to determine if any criminal charges will be filed in the case.
