THP releases report on crash that killed Pigeon Forge firefighter

SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — Editor's Note: The Pigeon Forge Fire Department initially said Aaron Huss was 20 years old. The report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol said Huss was 19 years old.

Nineteen-year-old Aaron Huss was pronounced dead after a crash on I-40 on Sunday evening, Pigeon Forge Fire Chief Tony Watson confirmed. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has since released a report into what led to the crash.

According to the report, the motorcycle was traveling west on I-40 near MM 404.2 when it lost control and overturned. Huss was then thrown from the bike and landed under the guardrail, THP said.

According to Watson, Huss was off duty when the crash happened.

On Monday, the Pigeon Forge Fire Department held a procession for Huss, taking his body from the Knoxville Forensics Center to the Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville.

Pigeon Forge Fire Chief Tony Watson confirmed with WBIR that the person involved in the crash was Aaron Huss.

PFFD provided the following statement on the loss of Huss below:

"It is with heavy hearts that the Pigeon Forge Fire Department reports the sudden loss of our Firefighter, Aaron Huss, in an off-duty motorcycle accident last night. This is a devastating loss for our department as well as the entire Sevier County Fire Service. Firefighters are family, and that is especially true for the Pigeon Forge Fire Department. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to work alongside Firefighter Huss. He was an exemplary employee in both professionalism and character. His faith leaves a lasting impact on those that knew him. On behalf of his fire department family and the City of Pigeon Forge, we offer our sincere condolences during this difficult time."
