THP: Greene County Sheriff's Office cruiser hit by drunk driver

A woman has been charged with DUI and failure to yield after police say she crashed into a Greene County Sheriff's Office cruiser early Thursday morning.

A Greene County Sheriff's Office cruiser was hit by a drunk driver early Thursday morning, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol.

According to NBC affiliate WCYB, the crash report states Angela Gillis, 45, was driving a 2015 Dodge minivan north on U.S. Highway 11E near Claude Simmons Road in Washington County, Tennessee, when she was trying to make a left turn. She failed to yield to the cruiser and hit the vehicle in the left front tire, pushing it off the roadway into a field around 2 a.m. Thursday.

A deputy was driving the police car, while another deputy and a juvenile prisoner were passengers in the vehicle. The passenger and juvenile prisoner were taken to the hospital. There is no word on either of their conditions.

The minivan had two passengers in the vehicle. One of them, 57-year-old Larry Lowe was charged with DUI by consent. Gillis was charged with DUI and failure to yield. No one in the minivan was hurt.
