An 88-year-old driver found dead after a Grainger County vehicle crash actually died before the collision, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Paul Shipe of Blaine was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox on Thursday afternoon with passenger Jo Anne Shipe on Richland Road near McKinney Road, according to a THP report.
The Chevrolet ran off the right side of the road, hitting a ditch. It then hit a fence and turned over.
It came to rest on its top, according to the report.
Jo Anne Shipe, 83, also of Blaine suffered injuries and was taken by ambulance to University of Tennessee Medical Center, the report states.
Medical authorities determined Paul Shipe died before the crash and not because of the crash.
