ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol said two people died in a crash on I-75 South in Anderson County on Wednesday.
A preliminary report said four vehicles were involved in the crash, and said it happened at around 1:50 a.m. In it, authorities said a semi-truck driven by Dennis Jacobsen, 68, was following a Nissan Sentra on I-75 South.
The report said a 15-year-old, 13-year-old and 6-year-old were in the Sentra driven by a 35-year-old. The report said the semi-truck was also behind a Jeep Wrangler and a Volvo.
It said that the semi-truck was "following improperly" and hit the three other cars in the rear. It said the semi-truck came to a stop off the road, and so did the Sentra.
The Jeep Wrangler stopped in the center of the highway, and the Volvo stopped off the road. The preliminary report said everyone in the Jeep Wrangler died. It said the two victims were identified as Pedro Daniel Avina Sanchez, 35, and Jose Manuel Avina, 65.
A total of seven other people were injured, including the minors. Charges are pending against Jacobsen and his 63-year-old passenger, Mary Ann Jacobsen, according to the report.
Additional information, such as the conditions of anyone injured in the crash, was not immediately available.
