“It was a little dystopian, but also really friendly at the same time. It was great to see it and explore and even just imagine what it was like in the 1970s,” Brandon Goldsworthy said about their wedding at Land of Oz.

Beech Mountain, NC — Brandon and Anna Goldsworthy have been married for six years, but they look back on their unique 2012 wedding and smile.

Inspired by the place where Anna’s parents met, the two decided to tie the knot at the Land of Oz attraction atop Beech Mountain, North Carolina.

“Well, we wanted to have a fairly casual, fun wedding. When we talked to my mom after we got engaged, she mentioned the idea. My mom and dad lived on Beech Mountain, and that’s where they met,” Anna said.

Of course, the Land of Oz had long been closed by 2012, but the management company at the time allowed special events rentals for occasions like weddings.

“It was a little dystopian, but also really friendly at the same time. It was great to see it and explore and even just imagine what it was like in the 1970s,” Brandon said.

The two crafted many of the details themselves, from the invitations to the beaded bouquet Anna held when she walked down the aisle.

“We still have bits and pieces of the things we made on display around the house,” Anna said.

The couple has two young children and recently decorated their daughter’s nursery to look like the place they were married.

“The rug in her room is yellow with little shapes in it like the yellow brick road,” Anna said.

There’s also a miniature hot air balloon hanging from the ceiling and a floor-to-ceiling pallet rainbow the couple crafted.

“It’ll be fun to take our kids there one day when they’re older and explain this is where mommy and daddy got married,” Brandon said.
