Large section of Third Creek Greenway to close for repairs and repaving by Oct. 23

The popular greenway will undergo repairs and repaving starting by Oct. 23, but possibly sooner.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A popular greenway stretching through around five miles of downtown Knoxville will undergo repairs and repaving soon, leading to closures for a major section.

Knoxville's Parks and Recreation Department said work would start by Oct. 23 on Third Creek Greenway, but could start sooner. Sections between Concord Street, Sutherland Avenue, Tobler Lane, and access from Laurel Church of Christ will be closed while crews work, the department said.

It also said a previously established detour on Painter Avenue will be available until the closure. The detour was established on Oct. 9, the department said.

It also said the duration of work to repave and repair the greenway is dependent on whether the area has dry weather.
