UPDATE: People across the Knox County area have reported receiving suspicious text messages from a different number than before. That number is also directing people to call back a different number.

TVA still says those numbers are not from the credit union.

ORIGINAL STORY: Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union is warning people in East Tennessee about a string of text message scams.

The credit union said some of its members have received text messages from varying area codes posing as the organization and asking the recipient to call the number in the message. The credit union said they did not send out those messages and are warning people never to give out sensitive personal information over the phone.

Anyone that has responded to the message is asked to call 1-800-554-8969 to talk to customer service to secure their account.

Viewers and multiple WBIR employees have received the messages over the weekend. It will begin with something along the lines of "Knox.TVA ECU Alert" and have a number at the bottom with an 844 or 717 area code and possibly others for the person to call.
