TENNESSEE, USA — The Tennessee State Parks Conservancy and Outdoor Chattanooga have announced a new program to get Southeast Tennessee children to spend more time outdoors than ever before.

The Outdoor Leadership Club is designed to introduce youth and families in historically marginalized communities "to nature to experience the physical and mental health benefits of being outside."

“Outdoor activities are typically a very accessible means of finding health and happiness, yet some barriers still exist, particularly in low-income communities,” said Alex Wyss, Executive Director of Tennessee State Parks Conservancy. “This program aims to bridge that gap and provide a welcoming environment for everyone in the community.”

The program has funding to last at least two years in the Chattanooga area, thanks to The Lyndhurst Foundation, The H20 Life, Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga, Hamilton County Schools and Tennessee State Parks.

Right now, the program is limited to a select number of students and schools. In the future, the conservatory aims to expand throughout the state.
