Teachers and local organizations hope Amazon Prime Day helps with wish lists

Thousands of items on Amazon are heavily discounted, making it a great opportunity for those needing to buy gifts, or get ahead on Christmas shopping.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — It’s an online two-day event that a lot of people wait for all year, Amazon Prime Day. Thousands of items on Amazon are heavily discounted, making it a great opportunity for those needing to buy gifts or get ahead on Christmas shopping.

Katie Keys is a third-grade teacher in East Tennessee and said she has been creating Amazon wish lists for her classroom for a couple of years now.

“A lot of books,” said Keys. “A lot of treats for the kids. I like to make them feel really special as often as I can.”

And while thousands of people hop onto Amazon hoping to save some cash on their purchases from their wish lists, she and other teachers are hoping they lend a hand and buy items from their lists.

And teachers are not the only ones. Local non-profits and organizations are also posting their wish lists, including Zoo Knoxville.

“You can see everything from cleaning supplies, or you might see goggles,” said J.J. Jones with Zoo Knoxville.

He said Prime Day is an opportunity to help not only the zoo but other organizations it works with.

“We have a team that goes over every year to Madagascar, to help with tortoises that were confiscated, that were part of the illegal pet trade,” said Jones. “And we are still helping them. Anything from walkie-talkies to batteries.”

Katie said helping teachers will also help students here in the community.

“I’d like to take that burden off of them and have necessities on hand, so the families don’t have to worry about feeding their kid, or getting pencils for school.”
