KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — More than 100 Tennessee Department of Transportation workers have been killed while on the job, and the department said Workers Awareness Week is meant to make sure that number doesn't go up.

TDOT is marking this week by setting up 113 barrels along I-640 East near the Western Avenue exit in Knoxville to honor those workers who were killed.

Another way these workers are being honored is in downtown Knoxville. The pedestrian bridge across Henley Street is being lit up orange for the week.

"Whenever you see those orange cones and barrels, realize the odds are there will be workers in the area, so please slow down, move over if you're able to and no matter what, do not drive distracted," said Mark Nagi.
