TBI identifies armed man who was shot by deputy after shooting at Monroe County Justice Center

A Monroe County Sheriff's Department deputy confronted David Resmondo when he entered the building, after firing shots in the parking lot, according to the TBI.

MONROE COUNTY, Tennessee — UPDATE (12:45 p.m.): The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said a deputy shot and killed a man at the Monroe County Justice Center after the man began shooting a gun before entering the building. He was identified as David Resmondo, 49.

The TBI along with the Knox County Sheriff's Office's Bomb Squad and aviation teams were in Monroe County responding to the shooting.

KCSO said later it checked for explosives but none were found at the scene.

According to TBI, Resmondo fired shots in the Monroe County Justice Center parking lot around 8:30 a.m. Friday. He then went to the building's front door, fired again and went into the building.

A Monroe County Sheriff's Department deputy confronted the man and shot him. The man later died at a local hospital, the TBI said.

No other injuries were reported from the shooting. The TBI did not release the identity of the officer involved.
