KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department announced they are offering a program for families who have individuals with cognitive or developmental disabilities who go missing or are found alone.

The program is called Take Me Home. This allows a family member or legal guardian to register emergency contact information for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities who live, work or go to school in Knoxville. Cognitive or developmental disabilities include autism, dementia and Alzheimer's.

If an individual is found alone or is reported missing, law enforcement and emergency services personnel can search the Take Me Home registry for emergency contact information, a detailed physical description and a photo.

The program is offered through the Kevin and Aconte Bureau of Justice Assistance Grant. The goal of the grant is to reduce injury and death of missing individuals with dementia and developmental disabilities.

No matter the age or diagnosis, KPD's goal is to bring your loved one home as quickly as possible using the information provided in the Take Me Home registry.
